Subject:- Compensation of at least Rupees one crores to the family members of Central Government Employees in the event of pre-mature death of an employee due to infection of coronavirus while on duty.
We the undersigned have been directed to invite your kind attention to above mentioned subject and state that, in the present scenario of severe attack of Coronavirus, lakhs of people have been infected by this deadly virus and lives are getting lost unabatedly.
The NFCGA-EWO being a responsible Employees and Workers Organisation had at the very initial days of spread of the epidemic of COVID-19 appealed upon all sections of Central Government and employees of Allied organisations, Outsourced, Casual and Contingent employees & Workers working in various central Government establishments of the country to extend their full cooperation to the Government of India and State Governments in the fight against spread of Coronavirus. These sections of employees have also contributed at least one day’s salary/ wage to the PM Relief Fund or PM CARE fund either through their respective Unions/ Associations/ Federations or through their employers.
The workers of various essential services and policy making establishments of Central Government and allied (autonomous) organization are working round the clock risking their lives. Of late, it has been reported by the affiliated unions and Associations of this federation that thousands of the Central Government Employees, various other categories of workers like casual, Contingent, outsourced workers and officers have been infected by the deadly virus called COVID- 19 while discharging their duties and hundreds of such officials have lost their lives by now. Such untimely demise of the employees, various other categories of workers and officers has pushed 19 while discharging their duties and hundreds of such officials have lost their lives by now. The scheme of extending compensation has been provided to employees of the Department of Posts by the Government of India to the extent of Rs.10 Lakhs on the ground of being a part of the essential service.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has extended insurance benefits of a meager amount of Rs. 50 lakhs to the health workers on account of accidental death for their direct contact and care of COVID -19 cases or at the risk of being infected by this.
The Prasar Bharti authorities have been granting compensation of Rs. 50 lakhs to the families of the employees losing their lives due to Corona infections.
The Government of Delhi has announced to pay Rs. 1 (Rupees one) crore ta the family of security personnel who died on duty, families of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and sanitation workers will also be given an equal amount if they die while dealing with corona patients.
Under the above circumstances, we humbly appeal to the Government of India kindly to put the Central Government employees as well as all categories of Casual, Contract and professional interns etc. in same cluster with regard to infection of COVID-19 while on duty and grant equal amount as compensation to their family members in the event of their pre-mature death due to infection of coronavirus. The amount of compensation may be fixed Rupees One Crore as the death cases would be of comparatively young persons and they shall be leaving behind their family liabilities.
