DoPT proposes to engage three Legal Consultants and also create a panel for future requirements. The engagement will be on a contract basis for an initial period of one year, which may be extended depending on departmental requirement and performance of the consultant.

The Legal Consultant will assist the Department in handling litigation-related matters pending before various courts and tribunals. This includes monitoring court cases, coordinating with government counsel, drafting replies and affidavits, vetting legal documents, ensuring compliance with court orders, and maintaining records of litigation. The role may also involve providing feedback on litigation trends and supporting capacity-building initiatives related to legal matters.

The Legal Consultant will be paid a fixed monthly remuneration, calculated by deducting the basic pension from the pay drawn at the time of retirement, in accordance with existing Department of Expenditure guidelines. The remuneration will remain unchanged during the contract period. Transport allowance will be admissible as per rules, and TA/DA may be allowed for official tours, where applicable.
