(a): State-wise details of such cases are not maintained. However, a total number of 2395 cases were pending for appointment on compassionate grounds on the Railways as on 31.12.2015. Zone-wise details are as under:-

(b): Appointment on compassionate grounds is a continuous process on the Railways. Majority of such cases are pending on account of wards being minor, non-availability of suitable vacancies, legal cases pending in courts, etc. Therefore, no time frame can be laid down for the disposal of the pending cases.
