Will the Minister of FINANCE be pleased to state:
(a) the number of persons between the age of 18 to 35 years that have filed income tax in the current financial year;
(b) the amount of income tax collected from the above age category under the heads of income from salary, income from house property, income from profits and gains from business or profession, income from capital gains and income from other sources in the same period;
(c) the number of persons below the age of 18 years that filed income tax in the same period; and
(d) the amount of income tax collected from below 18 age category under the heads of income from salary, income from house property, income from profits and gains from business or profession, income from capital gains and income from other sources during the same period?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE (SHRI PANKAJ CHAUDHARY)
(a). Total number of Income tax Returns (ITRs) filed by individuals (between age of 18 to 35 years) during FY 2022-23 till 31° January 2023: 2,09,06,829
(b). As per Income-tax Act,1961, tax is calculated and collected based on total income returned in ITR. Total Income includes income from different heads of income such as income from salary, income from house property, income from profit and gains from business or profession, income from capital gains and income from other sources. Tax is not collected separately under different heads. Gross taxes paid as per ITRs filed, before claim of refund: Rs 93,318 crore
(c). Total number of ITR filed by individual (below age of 18 years) during FY 2022-23 till 31st January 2023: 4,861
(d). As per Income-tax Act,1961, tax is calculated and collected based on total income returned in ITR. Total Income includes income from different heads of income such as income from salary, income from house property, income from profit and gains from business or profession, income from capital gains and income from other sources. Tax is not collected separately under different heads. Gross taxes paid as per ITRs filed, before claim of refund: Rs 6.31 crore.
