8th Central Pay Commission Invites Applications for Consultant Positions
The Eighth Central Pay Commission (8CPC) has invited applications from eligible candidates for engagement as Consultants on a contractual basis. The Commission, constituted to review and recommend changes in the pay structure, allowances, and pension framework of Central Government employees, has issued an open-ended circular for filling these positions.
Open-Ended Recruitment Process
According to the Office Memorandum, the recruitment process will remain open until all vacancies are filled. Interested candidates must submit their applications online through the prescribed proforma available on the official link provided by the Commission. No physical or email submissions will be accepted.
Categories and Eligibility
The Commission has classified consultant positions into three categories:
- Senior Consultant – Maximum age: 45 years; Experience: 10+ years; Vacancies: 5
- Consultant – Maximum age: 40 years; Experience: 6+ years; Vacancies: 5
- Young Professional – Maximum age: 32 years; Experience: 4+ years; Vacancies: 10
The cut-off date for determining eligibility is April 1, 2026.
Recent Job Opportunities
Candidates must possess either:
- A Master’s degree or MBA in Finance, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related fields, OR
- An LL.B degree with relevant legal experience, particularly in service matters.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in pay structures, compensation, or establishment-related work. Proficiency in spreadsheets and presentation tools is mandatory.
Scope of Work
Consultants will assist the Commission in a wide range of analytical and research tasks, including:
- Analysis of pay structures, allowances, and pensions
- Review of existing emolument systems
- Data collection and interpretation from various sources
- Legal research and coordination with Ministries/Departments
- Assistance in HR and compensation studies
- Evaluation of fiscal impact and policy implications
They may also be required to prepare reports, presentations, and assist in handling representations received by the Commission.
Nature of Engagement
The engagement will be purely contractual and temporary. Consultants may be appointed on a full-time or part-time basis, depending on the Commission’s requirements. Full-time consultants will not be allowed to undertake any other assignments during the tenure.
The initial tenure will be one year or until the Commission’s term ends, whichever is earlier. Extensions may be granted based on performance.
Remuneration Structure
The fixed monthly remuneration is as follows:
- Senior Consultant: ₹1,80,000 (full-time)
- Consultant: ₹1,20,000 (full-time)
- Young Professional: ₹90,000 (full-time)
Part-time options are also available for 12 days or 6 days per month with proportionately reduced fixed remuneration.
No additional benefits such as DA, accommodation, transport, CGHS, or other allowances will be provided. Only basic office infrastructure will be made available.
Selection and Procedure
Applications will be scrutinized by a committee of senior officers, and shortlisted candidates may be called for interaction. The Commission reserves the right to accept or reject any application without assigning reasons.
Selected candidates must confirm their acceptance within 7 days of receiving the offer and join within 30 days. Preference will be given to candidates who can join immediately.
Other Conditions
- Consultants will follow the same working hours as regular government employees.
- Attendance will be recorded through Aadhaar-based biometric systems.
- Full-time consultants are entitled to 8 days of leave per year.
- Strict confidentiality norms will apply under the Official Secrets Act.
- No administrative or financial powers will be assigned to consultants.
The Commission also reserves the right to terminate the engagement at any time without prior notice if performance is unsatisfactory or terms are violated.
