30% LDCE CBT for Group ‘B’ Promotions on Railways to Be Held on 12 & 19 April 2026

The Railway Board has issued a fresh clarification regarding the Centralised Computer Based Test (CBT) for 30% Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE) for promotion to Group ‘B’ posts on Indian Railways.

As per the latest instructions, the 30% LDCE CBT for the vacancy cycle 01.01.2025 to 31.12.2026, including anticipated vacancies up to 30.06.2027, will now be conducted on two separate dates — 12 April 2026 and 19 April 2026.

Examination to Be Conducted in Two Phases

The Railway Board has decided that 50% of eligible candidates from each department will appear for the examination on each of the two dates. Accordingly, all Zonal Railways and Production Units (PUs) have been directed to bifurcate the candidates and assign them to one of the two examination dates.

The bifurcation details must be intimated to RRB/Ajmer within 15 days from the date of issue of the letter so that examination centres and logistics can be arranged in time.

Earlier Exam Schedule Revised

The CBT for the 30% LDCE was earlier scheduled to be conducted on 8 March 2026. However, the Railway Board has postponed the examination and issued a revised schedule, confirming the new dates as 12 April 2026 and 19 April 2026 Boards-letter-dated-19_02_2026-….

Revised Model Calendar Issued

To ensure smooth and timely conduct of the examination process, the Railway Board has also issued a revised Model Calendar, which has been enclosed as an annexure to the letter. All concerned authorities have been instructed to strictly adhere to the revised timelines mentioned in the calendar.

Key Dates as per Revised Model Calendar

According to the annexure attached to the letter, the important milestones for the 30% LDCE are as follows:

• Finalisation of eligible candidates list: 23 January 2026
• Completion of pre-selection training: 30 March 2026
• Main CBT Examination: 12 April 2026 & 19 April 2026
• Declaration of results by RRB/Ajmer: 11 May 2026
• Finalisation of panels by Zones / PUs: 8 June 2026 Boards-letter-dated-19_02_2026-…

Applicable to All Zonal Railways and Production Units

The instructions apply uniformly to all Zonal Railways and Production Units, and the letter has been circulated to PCPOs, PFAs, Dy. CPO(G), Dy. CAO(G) and concerned Railway Recruitment Boards for necessary action.
