Departments Asked to Intimate Accounts Officer on Events Affecting Pension or Government Dues After Pension Case Processing
The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) has issued an Office Memorandum reminding all Ministries and Departments to promptly inform the Accounts Officer of any event that may affect the pension or Government dues of an employee after the pension case has been processed under the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021.
The circular, issued under F. No. 11/1/2025-P&PW(H)-I, reiterates the provisions of Rule 61 of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021, which outline the responsibilities of the Head of Office in such situations.
Key Points from Rule 61
According to the OM:
- Reporting Events Affecting Pension:
Once the pension case and relevant papers have been sent to the Accounts Officer under Rule 60, if any subsequent event occurs that affects the amount of pension admissible, the Head of Office must immediately intimate the same to the Accounts Officer. - Reporting Additional Government Dues:
Similarly, if any additional Government dues come to the notice of the Head of Office after forwarding the pension case, such dues must also be promptly reported to the Accounts Officer.
Strict Compliance Directed
The DoPPW has urged all Ministries, Departments, and Organisations to ensure that these provisions are brought to the attention of the personnel handling pension matters and are implemented in letter and spirit.
