Confederation Endorses Nationwide Strike on February 12 Against Labour Codes
Confederation of Central Government Employees & Workers has formally endorsed the proposed one-day nationwide strike on February 12, 2026, opposing the implementation of labour codes and raising sector-specific demands of central trade unions and independent federations.
The decision was taken during an online National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on January 20, 2026, under the chairmanship of Confederation President Rupak Sarkar, as per a circular issued by the organisation on January 21.
NEC Meeting Highlights
The virtual meeting saw participation from 19 National Executive Committee members, representing seven State Co-ordination Committees (CoCs) and ten affiliated organisations. The meeting began with the President welcoming members and observing a minute of silence in homage to martyrs.
Secretary General S.B. Yadav presented a detailed report on organisational activities since the previous NEC meeting. He reviewed the Confederation’s participation in:
- The nationwide strike on July 9
- Lunch-hour demonstrations held on August 20 and December 16, 2025
It was noted that the December 16 protest achieved partial success, being observed in around 65 per cent of workplaces.
Background to the February 12 Strike
The Secretary General also briefed members about the National Convention of Workers held in New Delhi on January 9, 2026, attended by ten central trade unions (CTUs) and independent federations. The convention had unanimously decided to observe a one-day strike on February 12, 2026, primarily against the implementation of the labour codes.
During the NEC meeting, members from various states and affiliates expressed their organisational preparedness and shared views on the proposed strike. Queries raised during discussions were clarified by the President and the Secretary General.
Key Decisions Taken
After detailed deliberations, the National Executive Committee unanimously adopted the following resolutions:
- The Confederation will observe the February 12 strike, raising its own Charter of Demands as Part-A, along with CTUs’ and sector-specific demands as Part-B.
- State Co-ordination Committees have been directed to organise conventions and intensive campaign programmes to mobilise employees and ensure maximum participation in the strike.
- Members of the National Secretariat will undertake campaign activities within their respective circles and neighbouring regions.
- The All India Conference (AIC) of the Confederation will be held in the second week of April 2026 at Hyderabad, to be hosted by the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana CoC.
The Confederation has indicated that a detailed circular containing the strike notice, charter of demands and campaign schedules will be issued shortly.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the President.
