MEA Invites Applications from Retired Gazetted Officers for Consultant Posts in Passport Offices; Apply by July 20
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has invited applications from retired Gazetted Officers of the Central Government for engagement as Consultants in various Passport Offices under the Central Passport Organization (CPO). Eligible retired officers can submit their applications by 20 July 2026 (5:00 PM).
The engagement will initially be for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance, mutual willingness, and organizational requirements.
Vacancy Details
The Ministry is seeking retired officers who retired at Pay Level-8 (7th CPC) or above from Central Government Ministries, Departments, or Offices.
A total of 16 consultant positions are available across the following Passport Offices:

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
- Must have retired from a Central Government Ministry, Department or Office at Pay Level-8 or above under the 7th CPC.
- Should not be more than 63 years of age as on the last date for submission of applications.
- Relevant experience in the domain specified for the respective Passport Office will be preferred.
Tenure and Nature of Engagement
The consultancy will initially be for one year.
The contract may be extended depending on:
- Performance assessment
- Mutual willingness
- Functional requirements of the organization
The engagement may also be terminated by either side with one month’s notice or payment of one month’s remuneration in lieu thereof.
Consultants will primarily handle:
- Administrative work
- Legal matters
- Establishment issues
- Public grievance redressal
- Other assignments entrusted by the Passport Officer concerned
Remuneration and Benefits
Selected consultants will receive a fixed monthly remuneration as per Department of Expenditure guidelines applicable to retired government servants.
Some important conditions include:
- No annual increment during the contract period.
- No entitlement to DA, HRA, Provident Fund, Pension, Gratuity or other benefits available to regular government employees.
- Transport Allowance will be regulated as per applicable government guidelines.
- Up to 15 days of paid leave in a calendar year on a pro-rata basis.
- TA/DA for official travel will be admissible as per applicable rules.
Selection Process
Applications will be scrutinized by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Shortlisted candidates will be informed through email regarding the interview schedule. Final selection will be based on performance in the interview.
No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
