Central Government Holiday List — 2027

Central Govt Holiday List 2027

The Department of Personnel & Training has released the holiday list for Central Government offices for 2027, vide O.M. No. 12/2/2023-JCA dated 16 July 2026. As always, it covers 17 gazetted holidays for Delhi/New Delhi offices and 32 restricted holidays, of which employees can avail any two.

A quick look at the 2027 calendar shows a mixed bag — four holidays line up for automatic long weekends, but five, including Independence Day (which coincides with Id-e-Milad this year), fall on a weekend with no substitute permitted. Use the calendar below to check dates, spot bridge-day opportunities, and plan your leave for the year ahead.

Fine print worth knowing

  • No substitute holidays. If a declared festival holiday falls on a weekly off (or two festivals coincide, as Independence Day and Id-e-Milad both do on 15 August 2027), no alternate day is granted.
  • Diwali flexibility. Deepavali falls Friday, 29 Oct 2027. States that officially observe Naraka Chaturdasi (28 Oct) as the compulsory State holiday may substitute that day instead, if notified.
  • Moon-sighting holidays. Dates for Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Zuha, Muharram and Id-e-Milad may shift depending on moon sighting; changes are announced via PIB/TV/AIR at short notice.
  • Offices outside Delhi/NCT observe the 14 compulsory national/religious holidays plus 3 more chosen locally from a 12-item optional list (Holi, Onam, Pongal, Rath Yatra, etc.), finalised by the State-level Coordination Committee.
  • Commercial/industrial CG establishments may observe up to 16 holidays a year, with Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti compulsory.
