Sub: Skill Test for Stenographer-III (Pay Level-4) against 25% promotion by Selection and 25% by General Selection.
As the Railway Administrations are aware, in terms of extent instructions, the selection process for Stenographer III (Pay Level-4) consists of written test, shorthand test at the speed of 80 W.P.M. of candidates who qualify in the written test, and viva-voce of successful candidates in the shorthand test.
One of the zonal railways has raised doubts whether the shorthand test is only of qualifying nature, or the marks obtained in it should also be included in the determination of final merit. The matter has been examined and it is clarified that the shorthand test for Stenographer-III (Pay Level-4) against 25% promotion by Selection, and 25% by General Selection is to be considered as qualifying in nature.
