Sub.: Provision of SIMs for Hand Held Terminals being used by Ticket Checking Staff

Item (a) of Para-1 of instructions issued on the subject vide Board’s letter of even number dated 15.07.2022, may be read as under:

(a) For HHTs, preferably M2M SIMs/eSIMs are to be used considering the security aspect and the connectivity requirement with limited internet access. Railways may decide to procure M2M SIMs accordingly. However, if the procurement of M2M SIMs/eSIMs does not materialize in time or the rates are more than the cost of Plan ‘C’ of CUG scheme, then Zonal Railways may use the CUG SIMs of Plan ‘C’.

2. This has the concurrence of Commercial and Finance Directorate of Ministry of Railways.

Sub.: Provision of SIMs for Hand Held Terminals being used by Ticket Checking Staff

Handheld terminals (HHT) are being provided to the ticket checking staff. For the provision of SIMs to ensure connectivity for these HHTs, following instructions are issued:

(a) For HHTs, preferably M2M SIMs/eSIMs are to be used considering the security aspect and the connectivity requirement with limited internet access. Railways may decide to procure M2M SIMs accordingly. However, if the procurement of M2M SIMs/eSIMs does not materialize in time, then Zonal Railways may use the CUG SIMs of Plan ‘C’.

(b) PCSTEs of Zonal Railways shall set out minimum standards of network coverage required for the M2M connectivity.

(c) The user department in the Zone or Division shall be in close coordination with S&T department for technical support in case M2M SIMs/eSIMs are procured in future.
