DISABILITY PENSION TO CADETS

2259. SHRI SYED IMTIAZ JALEEL:
Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the proposal for grant of disability pension to cadets medically boarded out from training on account of disability attributable to/aggravated by military training is under consideration of the Government;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the response of the Government thereon;

(c) if not, the timeline by which the Government intends to grant disability pension to cadets medically boarded out from training on account of disability;

(d) whether some of these cadets with up to hundred percent disability continue to languish without any resettlement option or even medical treatment; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the remedial measures taken by the Government in this regard?

MINISTER OF STATE (SHRI AJAY BHATT)
IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

(a) to (c): The proposal for grant of disability pension to cadets medically boarded out from training on account of disability attributable to/aggravated by military training is under examination by the Judge Advocate Generals (JAGs) of Army, Air Force and Navy in the Ministry of Defence.

(d) & (e): DGR is mandated to provide resettlement opportunities to Ex Servicemen of Army, Navy and Air Force. Similarly, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) facility is available to Ex-Servicemen who are in receipt of Defence pension. Ex-Cadets being non-ESM, are not entitled for resettlement opportunities and ECHS facility.
