CGHS Facilities Extended to DANICS and AGMUT Pensioners at Par with AIS Retirees
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has approved the extension of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) facilities to Central Civil Service pensioners belonging to DANICS and similarly placed AGMUT cadre employees, bringing them at par with All India Services (AIS) pensioners.
The decision has been conveyed through an Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry’s EHS Section on 9 January 2026.
What Has Been Approved
As per the Office Memorandum, eligible pensioners from the DANICS and similarly placed AGMUT cadres will now be allowed to exercise an option for medical facilities in the same manner as All India Services pensioners.
They may choose to avail medical benefits through either:
- The State Government medical facilities from which they retired, or
- The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)
This option will be available subject to the same terms and conditions already applicable to AIS pensioners.
Background of the Decision
The Ministry clarified that the matter had been under examination for some time in reference to its earlier Office Memorandum dated 1 February 1988, which governs the medical facility options for AIS pensioners. After careful consideration, the competent authority has now extended the same provisions to DANICS and similarly placed AGMUT pensioners.
This move ensures parity in post-retirement healthcare access for officers of DANICS and similarly placed AGMUT cadres, aligning them with the long-standing benefits available to AIS pensioners. It is expected to simplify medical benefit choices for retirees and provide greater flexibility in accessing healthcare services.
