STATUS OF NURSING OFFICERS
2451 SHRI A. A. RAHIM:
Will the Minister of Defence be pleased to state:
(a) whether the nursing officers are given permanent commission, if so, the details thereof and the number of nursing officers on permanent commission;
(b) whether retired nursing officers are given the title and benefits of ex-servicemen;
(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) whether they used to get pension, if so, till when?
ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE (SHRI AJAY BHATT) IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
(a): Yes, Sir. As per the extant policy, 60% of the Nursing Officers are given Permanent Commission. As on 31 July, 2022, out of a total held strength of 4703 Officers there are 2925 Military Nursing Service (MNS) Officers holding Permanent Commission.
(b) & (c): No, Sir. As per the definition of Ex-servicemen issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions vide Notification No. G.S.R. 757 (E) dated 4th October, 2012, MNS Officers are not covered under the definition of Ex-servicemen.
(d): All Permanent Commissioned MNS Officers retiring after pensionable service of 20 years, as per extant Rules, are granted pension.
