Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:
(a) whether all the Army canteen card holders have been permitted to purchase provisions from any place in the country, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the dependents of senior citizens have also been permitted to purchase provisions from other canteens at any place, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government proposes to extend the permission to the dependents of senior citizens in this regard; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
(a) to (d): As a pilot initiative, all Canteen Stores Department (CSD) beneficiaries have been permitted to purchase provisions as per their entitlement from any canteen. In case a beneficiary (including Sr. citizen) is not able to present himself/herself personally, a dependent is permitted to purchase stores on his/her behalf after obtaining permission from the Chairman of the Unit Run Canteen (URC) to purchase provisions from that URC.
