DoPT Invites Applications from Retired Officers for Engagement as Legal Consultants
The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) has invited applications from retired Central Government officers for engagement as Legal Consultants on a contractual basis. The engagement is intended to strengthen DoPT’s capacity in handling litigation and legal advisory matters before courts and tribunals.
Engagement & Scope
DoPT proposes to engage three Legal Consultants and also create a panel for future requirements. The engagement will be on a contract basis for an initial period of one year, which may be extended depending on departmental requirement and performance of the consultant.
The Legal Consultant will assist the Department in handling litigation-related matters pending before various courts and tribunals. This includes monitoring court cases, coordinating with government counsel, drafting replies and affidavits, vetting legal documents, ensuring compliance with court orders, and maintaining records of litigation. The role may also involve providing feedback on litigation trends and supporting capacity-building initiatives related to legal matters.
Eligibility & Experience
Applications are invited from retired officers of the rank of Deputy Secretary or equivalent and above from Central Government Ministries, Departments, or attached/subordinate offices.
Recent Job Opportunities
Applicants should have significant experience in handling court cases or litigation management, preferably in the Supreme Court, High Courts, or Tribunals. Experience as Registrar, Deputy Registrar, or Legal Advisor in a judicial or quasi-judicial body will be considered desirable.
The maximum age limit is 62 years as on the date of issue of the circular.
Remuneration
The Legal Consultant will be paid a fixed monthly remuneration, calculated by deducting the basic pension from the pay drawn at the time of retirement, in accordance with existing Department of Expenditure guidelines. The remuneration will remain unchanged during the contract period. Transport allowance will be admissible as per rules, and TA/DA may be allowed for official tours, where applicable.
Working Conditions
The engagement will be on a full-time basis, with normal working hours aligned to office timings of DoPT. Consultants may be required to work beyond office hours in exigencies, without any additional remuneration. Leave will be admissible at the rate prescribed in the engagement terms.
