Pension to the Retired Sportspersons

†2568. SHRI VIVEK NARAYAN SHEJWALKAR:

Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government is providing pension to the retired sportspersons for their livelihood;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the number of sportspersons getting pension in Madhya Pradesh;

(c) whether there is any increase in this pension over time; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS [SHRI ANURAG SINGH THAKUR]

(a) and (b): Yes sir. The Government is implementing the Scheme of Pension to Meritorious Sportsperson with an objective to provide assured monthly income through annuity for outstanding sportspersons. Under the existing Scheme, a monthly pension ranging from Rs.12,000/- to Rs.20,000/- is provided to the ex- sportspersons.

Currently, 829 ex-sportspersons are receiving benefits under the Scheme. State-wise list is not maintained in the Department.

(c) and (d): Yes Sir. The amount of pension to the ex-sportspersons has been increased over the years. The existing rates of pension are as under:-

1 Medalists at the Olympic Games / Para Olympic Games 20,000
2 Gold medalists at the World Cup/World Championship* in Olympic and Asian Games disciplines 16,000
3 Silver and Bronze medalists at the World Cup* in Olympic and Asian Games disciplines 14,000
4 Gold medalists of the Asian/ Commonwealth Games/Para Asian Games 14,000
5 Silver and Bronze medalists of the Asian/ Commonwealth Games/ Para Asian Games 12,000

 

This amount of monthly pension was last revised on 07.06.2018 wherein the amount under each category was doubled from the earlier existing amount.
