Extension of the term of the 7th Central Pay Commission

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its approval for the extension of the term of the 7th Central Pay Commission by four months up to 31.12.2015.

Background:

The 7th Central Pay Commission was constituted by the Central Government on 28.2.2014. According to the Resolution dated 28.2.2014, by which the Commission was constituted, it is to make its recommendations within 18 months of the date of its constitution that is by 27th August, 2015.

In view of its volume of work and intensive stake-holders’ consultations, the 7th Central Pay Commission had made a request to the Government for a four month extension up to 31.12.2015.

नई दिल्ली। केंद्र ने बुधवार को हुई कैबिनेट मीटिंग में सांतवे वेतन आयोग के कार्यकाल को 4 महीने के लिए और बढ़ा दिया है। प्रारंभिक रूप से मिल रही खबरों के अनुसार जस्टिस माथुर ने सरकार से दो महीने का अतिरिक्त समय मांगा था।

पहले उम्‍मीद की जा रही थी कि आज होने वाली बैठक में यह कार्यकाल दो महीने ही बढ़ाया जाएगा लेकिन इसे चार महीने बढ़ा दिया गया। पूर्व संप्रग सरकार ने केंद्र सरकार के करीब 48 लाख कर्मचारियों तथा 55 लाख पेंशनभोगियों के पारितोषिक में संशोधन के लिये फरवरी 2014 में वेतन आयोग का गठन किया था।

आयोग को अपनी रिपोर्ट अगस्त के अंत तक देनी थी। अब तक की योजना के अनुसार, सातवें वेतन आयोग की सिफारिशें एक जनवरी, 2016 से लागू होनी हैं। केंद्रीय कर्मियों में 90 फीसद सैन्य और अर्धसैन्य बलों बलों में काम करते हैं।

हाल ही में आयोग के अध्‍यक्ष जस्टिस एके माथुर ने कहा था कि, करीब 48 लाख कर्मचारियों और 55 लाख पेंशनरों के लिए गठित सातवां वेतन आयोग सितंबर माह के अंत तक अपनी रिपोर्ट सरकार को सौंप देगा। वेतन आयोग का कार्यकाल 31 अगस्त 2015 को समाप्त हो रहा है।
