Government Alerts Pensioners: Beware of Fraudsters Impersonating CPAO Officials

CPAO Warns Pensioners of WhatsApp Scams:

The Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO) has issued an important alert, warning pensioners across the country to remain cautious of scammers impersonating CPAO officials. The notice, addressed to the Heads of all Central Pension Processing Centers (CPPCs) and GM/DGMs of all authorized banks, was released to ensure that pensioners are not duped by these fraudulent activities.

Key Details of the Office Memorandum

In the Office Memorandum, dated 24 July 2024, CPAO has outlined serious concerns about fraudsters who have been posing as officials from the organization. These individuals have been contacting pensioners, falsely claiming that their pension payments for the next month could be withheld unless they fill out forms shared via WhatsApp. These forms often ask for sensitive personal information, such as PPO number, Date of Birth, and Bank Account Details.

The memorandum emphasizes that falling for such scams could lead to the withholding of pension payments or even worse consequences, with innocent pensioners falling into the trap of fraudsters.

Key Instructions for Pensioners

  1. Beware of Fraudulent Communications: The CPAO stresses that pensioners should never share personal information such as their PPO number, Date of Birth, or Bank Account details with anyone over calls or messages. Government agencies like CPAO or banks will never request this information from pensioners.
  2. Stay Vigilant: CPPCs and banks are urged to inform all pensioners under their care about these scams and ensure that they are aware of the tactics used by fraudsters. This includes guiding pensioners to verify the authenticity of any communication they receive.
  3. Act Against Fraud: The memorandum requests banks and CPPCs to take necessary action to safeguard pensioners from being exploited by fraudsters. By spreading this message and ensuring awareness, they aim to protect pensioners’ financial security.

Protecting Pensioners’ Financial Interests

The CPAO is deeply concerned about protecting the financial interests of pensioners, many of whom are senior citizens and may be particularly vulnerable to such schemes. It is crucial for pensioners and their families to remain informed and cautious.

This Office Memorandum acts as an urgent reminder for pensioners to verify any claims or requests for personal details, particularly when they come from unofficial channels like WhatsApp. As fraudsters become more sophisticated, staying alert and taking steps to protect personal information becomes more important than ever.

  1. There are many CGHS beneficiaries remaining in cities where no CGHS wellness center are available. The available centers are far away from their residences. If this facility is made available then hundred of cg pensioners will be able to avail the now unavailable health facilities.
