One Rank One Pension – Veterans to Take Legal Route

One Rank One Pension – Veterans to Take Legal Route – Lawyer Ram Jethmalani, who has already pledged support to the cause of the veterans, has agreed to take up the case.

With the government not relenting on the veterans’ demands on One Rank One Pension (OROP) and the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission causing further heartburn, a section of ex-servicemen are planning to take legal recourse against the government over the notification issued implementing the long pending scheme.

Lawyer Ram Jethmalani, who has already pledged support to the cause of the veterans, has agreed to take up the case. “We are looking at the legal options. Maj. Gen Satbir Singh (retd) has submitted all the documents as required by legal team headed by Ram Jethmalani. He [Ram Jethmalani] is studying the documents,” said Grp Capt V.K. Gandhi (retd), general secretary of Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement (IESM).

On the kind of legal options being explored, Col Anil Kaul (retd), Media Advisor to IESM, said it will be a “Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition for correction of the notification issued.”

“The notification is flawed,” Col Kaul said.

The government, on November 7, had issued the notification for implementing OROP. However, the veterans rejected, saying that it dilutes the OROP as promised.
