SCHEMES FOR THE WELFARE OF SENIOR CITIZENS

Will the Minister of SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:-
(a) the various schemes for the welfare of senior citizens;
(b) whether Government is aware that a huge section of the elderly is deprived of love, care, medical, housing, etc and that the need for senior citizens old age home schemes and a life of dignity for the elderly is a growing need as more and more children are not taking care of their aging parents; and
(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?
ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT (SUSHRI PRATIMA BHOUMIK)
(a) to (c) The Government of India is implementing various schemes and programmes to | provide healthy, happy empowered dignified and self-reliant life to senior citizens, alongwith strong social and inter-generational bonding.
Government is aware about the need of love, care, medical, housing, etc. of the senior citizens. For this purpose, various schemes/ programmes are being implemented by the Government for welfare of senior citizens. The details of these Schemes/ Programmes are at Annexure-I.
