Dear Sir,

Sub: Grant of Covid-19 Allowance to the Railway employees performing duties amid COVID-19 pandemic second wave-reg

The Railway Ministry is aware that the Railway employees belonging various categories including supervisory, safety, non-safety, Railway Doctors, para-medical staff (serving/retired), sanitization staff etc., have been performing duties with devotion to ensure smooth supplies of essential goods besides, availability of oxygen to Covid-19 patients in the country. The Railway Staff are performing duties during this crisis period, battling deadly virus infection fear. They deserve to be motivated to maintain their high morale, as many Railway employees have lost their lives on account of COVID-19 infection acquired in the course of performing duties.

NFIR proposes that the Railway employees performing duties despite rise in positive cases exponentially due to unabated spread of second wave of COVID-19 pandemic be granted “COVID ALLOWANCE” at the rate of not less than 25% of pay to maintain their high level of devotion and continue to perform. Federation also mentions that some State Governments have already announced Covid Allowance to their employees.
