NEET 2018 registration date extended to March 12, Aadhaar card not mandatory
The registration for NEET 2018 has been extended by March 12 and the exam is scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 6. In the latest development, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified that all candidates are allowed to apply online application form without Aadhaar card or Aadhaar enrollment number. The decision comes after the Supreme Court’s order that accepted the Centre’s contention that students may be allowed to deposit other relevant ID.
USE OTHER IDENTITY PROOFS FOR ENROLMENT:
Besides Aadhaar card number, candidates can now use alternative identification number such as ration card, passport, bank account number or other valid government ID (such as driving license, voter ID etc.) while submitting the online application form.
Now the students in Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Assam, can use other identity proofs like passport, voter card and ration card for the enrollment purpose as per the PTI report.
INFORMATION BY UIDAI:
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) informed the Supreme Court that it had not authorised CBSE to take Aadhaar number of students to enrol for appearing in NEET 2018 examination.
NEET 2018 OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION IN THE PAST:
Earlier, in the official notification released by CBSE for NEET registration Aadhaar was a mandatory requirement for exam registration, except for students belonging to Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya.
NEET 2018 one-time correction
The window for one-time correction will now be available from March 15 to 17 (Saturday).
CBSE will allow registered candidates one chance to correct the particulars mentioned in their application form. However, candidates should note that only one chance will be provided for correction. ‘Neither opportunity will be given to the candidates after this schedule and nor any request on the same will be accepted by the CBSE,’ reads the official update released by the Board. The Board further mentions that any changes related to category, parents name, qualifying code, exam centre, etc. should be done in the given time period. In response to the query of candidates where the aadhaar card only carries the name of the mother (being the ward of single parent), CBSE has asked to fill up the mandatory space for father’s name as ‘XXXX’.
The exam will be conducted in Hindi, English, Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, Oriya, Bengali, Assamese, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. Since last year, CBSE made Aadhaar card mandatory for registration. This is, however, not applicable in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya. For NRIs, passport number is required for the same.
The examination is held for admission to MBBS/BDS courses in India in medical/dental colleges run with the approval of Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India under the ministry of health and family welfare, except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament ie AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry.
