Grading Scheme for CBSE Class X:
Starting 2010, the Central Board of Secondary Education started a new way of scoring. This was the CGPA or Cumulative Grade Point Average system of grading. This move was a step to reduce comparisons and ensure that students who have a very small margin of difference in their marks, are in the same grade band. The CGPA system also eliminated issues caused due to evaluation errors.
Given below the marks to the grade allocation:
|CBSE Class 10 Grading Scheme|
|Marks Obtained||Grade Alloted||Grade Point Alloted (GPA)|
To pass class X exams, a student has to score at least a D grade in every subject. In 2015, 75,000 students scored a perfect 10 and in 2016, 1.4 lakh students scored a perfect 10. While it is not essential to understand how to score your CGPA as it is mentioned on the mark sheet, but in case you do want to calculate the same, you can follow the steps listed below:
- Take the grade points for the five main subjects. For example, subject 1: 8, subject 2: 9, subject 3: 10, subject 4: 9, and subject 5: 8
- Add these together. For example, 8+9+10+9+8
- Divide the sum figure by 5. For example 44/5 = 8.8
- The CGPA is 8.8
To calculate the percentage received, all you need to do is multiply the CGPA with 9.5. For example 8.8*9.5=83.6%
