Believe it or Not – A Temple In Chennai Goes Hep, Serves Burgers And Brownies As ‘Prasad’!

Traditional prasad in a Chennai temple such as tamarind rice and sweet pongal are passé. The Jaya Durga Peetham temple in Padappai is now serving burgers and brownies to devotees and is making fast headlines across the country.

PrasadThe trendy menu also includes cracker sandwiches and cherry tomato salads. Mind you, the food list is certified by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India with dates of manufactured, expiry, and best before stamped on every item.

And the service is top notch too. The visitors can collect boxes of ‘pret-a-prasad’ from vending machines installed in the temple’s automated kitchen.

The prasad has been a hit with locals and tourists alike. K Sri Sridhar, a herbal oncologist who contributed toward setting the temple agrees,

The idea was to show that anything that is nutritious and prepared in a clean kitchen with a clean mind can be served to God. It doesn’t have to be only traditional dishes.”

The temple also introduced ‘birthday cake prasadam‘ a few months back. The temple maintains a computerized record of devotees’ birth dates and residential addresses to deliver a cake prasad at their doorstep.
