Pay fine by Tomorrow NGT tells – He said he would not pay the fine of Rs.5 crore slapped by the NGT.
The National Green Tribunal on Thursday told the Art of Living (AOL) that it has time till tomorrow to deposit Rs 5 crore fine, failing which law will take its own course.
Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said on Thursday that he would not mind going to jail if the court wanted him to. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has decided to have open court hearing on the issue of payment fine.
The tribunal, however, refused to give urgent hearing to a fresh plea seeking stay on the event on the ground that it had not taken requisite permission from fire department, CPWD and Police.
The NGT also asked CPCB, MoEF and DPCC to issue a proper direction to the AOL with regard to disposal of municipal waste.
Asked during an interview by a TV channel if he would go to jail for having refused to pay the fine for the three-day International Culture Festival proposed to be held on the Yamuna floodplains here, he said: “Yes, I will”.
He said he would not pay the fine of Rs.5 crore slapped by the NGT.
The green court on Wednesday gave a go-ahead to the World Culture Festival, organised by Art of Living Foundation, on the condition that it pay an advance fine of Rs. 5 crore.
The spiritual guru also said the structure being made for the event was temporary and would be dismantled after the event. “The structure created for the event is temporary and will be dismantled after the event. We wanted to create awareness about Yamuna through this event,” he said.
“We have not done anything wrong. We have been taintless and will remain so. We we will go to jail but not pay a penny,” said Ravi Shankar.
